Aspen Isn't a Place, It's a Sartorial State of Mind, Why Not?
What to wear to continue the Aspen vibes for the rest of winter.
There’s a little ‘90s film called Aspen Extreme that really sets the bar for ski style (the plot is totally unhinged, but it’s worth a watch for the fashion). I recently embarked on a trip to the Colorado hot spot with It ski brand Goldbergh (my second time at the bougie mountainside retreat). The brand has a sweet coffee cart pop up at the W Hotel, steps from the mountain, that you need to check out if you’re in town.
Returning to the movie, and my long weekend in Aspen. I can confirm that the elements that add up to great Aspen style (both for ski and aprés) have, in fact, maintained consistency over the last 30 years. And I’d go so far as to say that Aspen style can and should just be winter style overall. We’re not out of the cold, snowy, winter woods yet, so stay warm bbs. Below, some style help.
Ski Chic
Aspen is about actually skiing, after all. I’m wearing Goldbergh’s hero ski pants, which got to where they are for a reason. They’re chic, warm, and very flattering on everyone. And I’m in love with this sculptural ski jacket and this one. Their goggles and helmet are the most comfortable and sleekest I’ve ever worn. We spotted Goldbergh in the wild on the mountain all day. People are obsessed, and I get it.
My lipstick here is Maed Beauty.
Das Boots
For boots, I have been living in my Sorel Caribous all winter and they’re so cozy. I love them with my vintage fur and jeans to run errands (also available on Amazon).
Out West
As far as the film still above, I wouldn’t wear it over a red jacket, but that belt is very Aspen-coded. Here’s a great Gap western belt, this Dehanche belt forever, and there’s always the Khaite Benny, which I love. Just wear it with jeans, a turtleneck sweater with a knee high boot (more of those below).
Hats On
Kendall and Hailey really killed it on their recent outings to the ski hotspot. This outfit is perfection. For me it’s all about the hat—which as you guessed, is also found in Aspen Extreme. I found the perfect shearling version and it’s on sale—a very rare Amazon find from moi. In case you’re wondering the jacket is vintage Alaia. I think this Toteme would be a chic alt. I believe her boots are Hermes, but I’ve never stopped wearing my Gia Borghini boots and for something sleeker, these are also great.
Go Big (Fur) or Go Home
Big furs are as old as time in Aspen, though this von Furstenberg ski house photo was more likely taken in Europe. My recco would be to get on your local FB Marketplace and search away. There’s always still my favorite steal shearling of the season too. For faux, this is a great find on Revolve.
Fair Isle Friend
Fair Isle knits as seen in Aspen Extreme and on Bardot are just perfect all winter, on and off the slopes. Altuzarra just showed one on his Fall 2025 runway with a leather pencil skirt, and Marc Jacobs took the idea to interesting proportions. This is my favorite from Polo Ralph Lauren, on sale. It’s perfect.
Good Sunnies
These Edera sunnies arrived after my trip but I’ve been living in them. And good shades are a must for Aspen. Hot tip: Colorado is sunny 300 days a year.
Fondue of You
A fondue set is a must. Inspired by a cutie, cozy restaurant in Aspen called French Alpine Bistro, get an actual cast iron one. And then have a little cheese party followed by a chocolate party—maybe for Valentine’s Day. The spirit of Aspen is natural beauty, fitness, and fun, add in some spa treatments and what could be better to get us through winter? Why not?
So chic, so cozy. Your article makes me want it all. You’re amazing
