Why Not Embrace the Shoe of the Season, Meditate Daily, and Make it Hot?
A New York Fashion Week mini dispatch, but also more.
New York Fashion Week is already so last week! But we still have much to integrate from it. First of all, I want to shout out Thom Browne for having Carrie Coon read The Raven during his runway show, she read it very creepy which just reinforces my sentiments about the misrepresented bird in a past newsletter. I just love Thom Browne and I’ve always felt honored to be at his shows, the theatre! The construction of the garments! I once watched him put on a macabre Victorian surgical room scene for what felt like 45 minutes! Speaking of construction, there’s just not enough being said about what Wes Gordon is up to at Carolina Herrera, it’s feminine and powerful and so beautifully done, it’s very Capote’s swans, which makes it all the more apropos that I had a direct eye line to Demi Moore in the front row. I also loved Ffrome, Altuzarra, Proenza Schouler, a few looks from Sandy Liang and Kallmeyer. I put together a little comp of some of my favorite runway moments so we can all reference them as the next season approaches.
Ivory, black, and red am I right? But for now, let’s live in the moment, or last week as the case may be. Below is some of what I wore and some why nots to get us all through the week!
Boat Shoes!
Photos by Andrew Werner
When I pulled together a quick list of ins and outs at the beginning of the year, Boat Shoes topped the list. I’ve loved them always, but the Miu Miu runway put them top of mind. They feel like a no-brainer. Just the right bit of preppy but they can veer SoCal surfer if you let them. I styled my favorite *Sperry pair last week in NYC with a new Marysia skirt, an old Jil Sander blazer, Zara shirt and sweater and Celine bag. I’ve also since worn them with socks and dark jeans with a Babaa sweater which hit the mark. They’re current but also timeless! Why not?
Here’s another shot of the skirt.
Why Not Shop My NYFW Fits?
I was in NYC for a good time, not a long time. I spent almost as much of it by myself as I did back in the full swing of things and it was so lovely. I went to The Met to do some research for my new paintings and The Well for a massage and lunch. It reminds me that New York was home and not just a place to go for work. But work is nice too! I went last minute so wore mostly my own clothes which is always refreshing!
It’s hard to see here but this Kallmeyer top with a tie is so fun, I wore it with my Anine Bing silk skirt and Bottega belt. I’d also love with this Khaite belt I want.
This Naadam cashmere skirt is already fully in my rotation. It’s so cozy. I wore it with a Naadam cashmere halter and vintage coat to the Gucci store reopening but with a sweater vest and long sleeve tee for day.
This little three-piece set is peak chic lounge by Cou Cou Intimates.
This Maxi skirt is by Ukranian designer Tamar Keburia, paired with my go-to Aritzia coat that’s more like a long blazer.
Clearly I’m into maxi length with long coats. Like this Dissh dress I’ve talked about before with this very good and on sale Kallmeyer coat with Bottega loafers.
Why not go infrared for your hair too?
I packed my new BondiBorn infrared brush for NYC to use for the first time and it’s just SO good. I am a very lazy hair person, I do not like to spend a lot of time on it. The past few years my hair was feeling a little brittle due maybe to growing it out, a change in water, a new colorist, and prob stress—and I’ve finally gotten it back to a good place. To smooth it I had been using a flat iron but that feels counterintuitive towards my ultimate goal of healthy hair. This Infrared brush situation works so fast and doesn’t do any damage. I’m into it (use code VIP15 for 15% off). I also like Briogio’s rice water treatment to leave on while I’m in the bath, it smells delish too.
Speaking of Heat!
I’m back on my Infrared sauna game and it makes me feel amazing, there was actually a Higher Dose at my hotel, ModernHouse in SoHo, coincidentally. I like their sauna blanket, but if you can get into a sauna it’s just healing. I’ve also been back into hot yoga, not Bikram, which is much hotter. Using intense heat like saunas and hot workout rooms actually makes you live longer, according to Harvard and in the winter it feels so nice. I’ve been cold plunging/ice showering on and off for years and while I believe in pretty much everything Wim Hof says, I have such a hard time being colder when it’s already cold.
Why Not Get Into Some Good Meditations
My sisters and I send each other our favorite meditations, so this is the result of three people’s regularly researched morning practices. These are the most impactful and beautiful in my opinion. Here is a pic of me in an Uber where I often meditate—wired headphones always!
Tony Robbins: Priming, the Daily Habit to Boost Your Brain Makes me cry every time.
Joe Dispenza’s Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself Meditations. Life altering. It’s a different kind of thing though so try this one first before buying.
Insight Timer’s Change Your Story by Sarah Blondin Just so gorgeous.
David Elliott’s Breathwork Meditations are amazing. My sister Katie is a breath work practitioner and studied his method. These will shift you so fast.
To Be Magnetic Feel Your Feelings and Magnetic Self meditations. You need a monthly membership but it’s worth it.
A Book Rec!
The letters between Anais Nin and Henry Miller are so beautiful and fiery, and I know I missed Valentine’s Day last week, but I’m dropping “Literary Passion” in now in honor of, well, love. The ultimate why not?
