I’d argue we are not even at peak trend, instead, we are possibly beyond it. There are so many trends now that the word trend may have lost all meaning. But as someone who has been in the trend game for most of my adult life—pulling together runway reports for a show called Full Frontal Fashion, then a few start ups, then Harper’s BAZAAR for over a decade and now here and for some other sites—I’m not willing to let go of the notion so easily.
But let’s get specific about what a trend actually means, to me, at least. Trends become relevant not because 5 people say so, but when the culture, the runway, and what people actually wear predicates it. I delved into the return of boho back in March, and now we’re seeing it come to fruition—it was just time for it to come back. But unlike even 15-20 years ago when boho reigned, there is rarely one sweeping look that fashion-conscious people lean into. There’s just not the capacity for group-think as we knew it when we all exist in our own algorithms.
Nevertheless, there are certain ideas, silhouettes, colors, and references that emerge. This is always a game of take it or leave it depending on if it resonates with you. Below are some ideas that feel very right now but also have staying power. Even if you want to store them for a minute, they’ll definitely come back out again.
The Collarless Jacket
This LouLou Studio jacket is very good. It can get the workwear job done but looks great with denim. I’m also very into gray. We were sensitized to the collarless thing when ladylike jackets began re-emerging in the last couple of years. This is like a hybrid of those jackets with a more masculine blazer. Like so many looks that reign now there’s definitely a The Row influence—arguably one of the few places where fashion hive group-think still occurs. I’m wearing it with my new fav split pants by Rue Sophie.
The Hobo Bag
I wrote an in-depth take on the hobo bag (yes, we can call it something else now) for Vogue. This is another example of the pendulum needing to swing. After structured bags maintained top ranking for so long, things were bound to soften up. I love my new Little Liffner (who is rebranding as Liffner soon btw according to the brand’s very chic founder I met in New York in September) soft tote. It’s a great size, big but not too big, and gives that slouch that I didn’t know I’d been missing. I also will hold onto this for years to come because the cycle will continue and this will always have a place in it IMO.
The Draped Top
I don’t think we’re tracking looks back to Phoebe Philo’s brand often enough. She’s been making super feminine, draped, or even caped, satin and silk tops since launch. I love this one. They’re sort of like grown up going-out tops. Mine is Kallmeyer and it feels super special. I love this dramatic one from Cos, and I am truly obsessed with this from Liberowe. Sometimes you don’t want to wear a sweater, a button-down, a t-shirt or a blazer and then you’ll look and see one of these tops and just know, it’s time.
Silver Cuffs
Silver cuffs showed up on Paris runways in recent seasons at Alaia and Saint Laurent. Again, we’ve been in dainty jewelry land, statements were bound to re-emerge. It’s just how things go. And they feel like exactly what we need right now. Similarly, I predict that those silk slim, streamlined pants with the side closure will be next to surprise us. Anyway! Back to cuffs. While acrylic are also happening I’m partial to these high shine silver babies. On one arm are two by Ben Amun. Here is similar. And here is mine. On my other arm is Jalil Johnson’s beautiful collaboration with At Present (I’m also wearing it as a necklace in the first pic, which I saw Laurel Pantin do and I thought was inspired). It’s a more subdued silver and so gorgeous, lightly inspired by our girl Elsa Peretti.
My skirt is old By Malene Birger, I’ve been obsessing over this silk skirt by new favorite Heirlome that comes in black and white. And my boots are Neil J. Rodgers.
The Sculptural LBD
You can probably track this one to the Dior bar jacket, Balenciaga hourglass jacket and other dramatically cinched waist silhouettes. My dress is Anna Quan and could probably double as a jacket. I love the shape so much, it feels super elegant, but it’s also still a black dress so is a total staple. I’m also into this one by Beare Park and it’s on sale.
Other notable why nots:
I took the OTM Collection Cannes Vanity Case** on the road with me during NYFW and now it’s settled into my bedroom where I’m storing my daily makeup and it looks so lovely and organized on my vintage dresser. It holds all my clean beauty daily go-tos: Agent Nateur Dewey skindrops SPF 50, Sweed Cloud mascara, Merit flush balm in Beverly Hills, Milk eyebrow kush (which is one sale) and Tower concealer.
While getting dressed lately I’ve really been feeling the lack of a good white pump. These by Toteme are gorgeous. I very much want these by Loewe or these by Amina Muaddi are also good. And there’s always Prada.
I also have been on the search for a silver magazine rack. This one is very cool, actually. Or I may pony up for this from Claude Home but it might also be too small.

How did you find the sizing of the rue sophie pants? I'm looking for a pant with that shape but have bigger thighs/calf so i'm worried it will look too legging like which is not the look I am going for!
