Why Not Transition into Spring in Closet, Mind and Spirit?
Maybe your hormones are out of balance, but Mercury Retrograde is over y'all.
The eclipses are over, Mercury is out of retrograde and everything is meant to be lightening up soon. NYC is going to be in the 80s this week, but spring is manic, kind of like me lately! So now is not the time to store all of your jackets just yet. If you’re a lover of layering, this is your moment. If you’re also feeling a little manic, blame the planets (we are still in the shadow of Mercury retrograde, after all) and follow a hormone expert on Instagram. I recently interviewed Dr. Carrie for Agent Nateur (the article isn’t live yet) and I learned SO much from her. I’ll link when it’s up, but basically my takeaway is that when we’re out of balance hormonally it’s most likely the cause of disrupted pathways in the liver and kidneys and this throws everything off—mood, digestion, sleep. So sometimes we need to supplement, or change diet, workouts, or other lifestyle habits, but it’s just a good thing to be aware of, especially if you’re a touch unhinged and you don’t quite know why.
Onto getting dressed. Layering makes life more interesting, and Spring and Fall are your times to embrace it. My key pieces are various types of peacoats (cropped trenches, leather trenches, and long black jackets), a long white skirt (do the bubble if you’re so bold), baggy white jeans, sailor jeans, and various tops like a polo and sleeveless turtleneck. I’m into the t-shirt dress again. Belts and scarves make life more interesting and I just love loafers. I’ve been shopping my closet for old favorites like Celine platform loafers and an old The Row hobo bag in burgundy suede. The over-under on all the looks is “simple but not boring.” Play with different lengths and proportions (like a long jacket over a mini dress or a cropped trench with baggy jeans—mine are men’s and they give that Phoebe Philo white jeans vibe without the price tag). Here is the link to shop every piece.
I’ve also been into this clean red lip from Westman Atelier. A good matte red lipstick without any lead or toxins is not easy to find! This doesn’t have the staying power of some of the non-clean ones I’ve used but you’re also not ingesting anything weird so there’s that! To note: the build up of toxins is also bad for hormone balance so we’ve really come full circle here. Why not?!
